Our story

Layback is a boutique surf & yoga camp, located in the heart of Weligama. In the midst of local life yet with the beach only a few minutes away from our doorstep, Layback is a quiet getaway for surfers and travelers. We invite you to our corner of the world.

Layback opened its doors in late 2017. Our vision was and is to create a friendly, chilled, and creative space for like minded travelers. A place that is intertwined with the local Weligama life to give our guest the opportunity to experience and learn about this place we are happy to call our home. Layback is made by surfers and travelers. We know the importance of a good night sleep, clean and stylish rooms and communal spaces for socialising and cooking.

Layback is not only a place to stay when you visit Weligama – it is a place to recharge after a long day at the beach. A place to breathe and relax, to be creative, to work or simply to enjoy a cold beer.

Thilina is the founder of Layback and is born and raised in Weligama. He is also a passionate surfer and enjoys sharing his love for the ocean with his guests as an instructor. Thilina has been involved in running a hotel from a young age, since his father - Raja - opened Weligama’s first guesthouse in the early 80s. Always buzzing with new ideas, Thilina ran a couple of successful business before he chose to get back into hospitality.

Linda, the manager is from the Netherlands. She first travelled to Sri Lanka in 2017 and fell in love with the country. She decided to stay in Weligama. The rest remains history.

Thilina and Linda have developed and created their vision of their ultimate hideaway for surfers and travelers. The result is Layback as we see it today
